Food security and climate change mitigation. All in one package.
Kashasha parish, one of the areas severely affected by the recent land slides in Rubanada District now boosts of a demonstration site for sustainable land management practices.
Community members are engaged in soil management practices of “fanya juu fanya chini” (digging trenches across the slopes). Calliandra ad grivellia are being planted on the trenches as stabilizers and bamboo for filling up gallies created by erosion. From the demonstration site community leaders and members are being engaged in transferring this knowledge to there other gardens. This practice is meant to empower these communities to become self sustaining in food production, mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and also modify the climate when the trees grow.
